Andhra & South Indian kitchen
Coastal Spice brings the bright, tangy cooking of Coastal Andhra to your table — stone-ground chutneys, crisp dosas, tamarind fish curry and filter coffee poured tall. Cooked fresh, served on banana leaf.
About us
We are a family-run Andhra kitchen built around one idea: cook the way the coast cooks at home. That means soaking, grinding and fermenting everything ourselves, leaning on gongura, tamarind, coconut and curry leaf, and refusing to cut a single corner for the sake of speed.
Every idli is steamed to order, every chutney is stone-ground that morning, and our gongura is sourced straight from the Guntur markets. Come hungry — the banana-leaf meal is bottomless on Sundays.
Chef’s specials
The three plates our regulars order without looking at the menu.

Chicken cooked down with tangy gongura (sorrel) leaves — the signature sour-and-hot flavour of Coastal Andhra.

A tamarind-and-coconut fish curry from Nellore, gently simmered so the flesh stays tender and the gravy stays sharp.

Sealed-pot dum biryani with saffron rice, slow-cooked meat and fried onion. Served with raita and mirchi ka salan.
Our story
Coastal Spice began in 2014 on a small verandah in Vijayawada, where our grandmother fed the neighbourhood from three clay stoves and one very stubborn grinding stone. When we moved to the city, we took that stone with us.
Today the menu is still hers at heart — the same gongura, the same slow-simmered pulusu, the same rule that a chutney is never bought, only ground. We have just added more chairs.

Reviews
The gongura chicken took me straight back to my grandmother’s kitchen. Tangy, hot and completely unapologetic about it.
Best pesarattu I have had outside Vijayawada. The ginger chutney is the real deal and the filter coffee finishes it perfectly.
We booked the banana-leaf meal for a family of nine. Fresh, generous and so flavourful. The staff even packed extra pickle for us.
